Catholic Relief Services

Catholic Relief Services is the official overseas humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic Community. It is an agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and I am proud to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors.

Recently, Ken Hackett, who is the President of C.R.S., sent all of the bishops in the United States an update on some of the activities of C.R.S. in responding to various catastrophes that have taken place around the world. I thought you might like to read a copy of his letter. You can also visit the C.R.S. website to learn more about their vitally important humanitarian work.

Hi- I have sent the CRS fair trade brochure to my daughters’ parochial school in an (unsuccessful) effort to get them to promote fair trade in their fundraising. The school is always urging kids to sell the most awful shlocky junk; I’m too embarrassed to push it on my neighbors. The CRS goods are much better quality and it would be great if the school fundraising could also somehow promote the social justice mission of the Church.

I agree completely with you Irene! I would also like to add that I would love to see an evangelization aspect of CRS like that of Operation Christmas Child from Franklin Graham.
