I had three encounters with Pope John Paul II in my former career as a journalist, the last one in 1995. I received a calling to the priesthood in the second grade 40 years ago but pursued a journalism career that took me all over the world, to four wars and reporting the first draft of history. However, it was the suffering Pope John Paul II in the last years of papacy that inspired me and woke me up to listen and eventually answer the call that was still coming from Jesus. I am now in studying as a later vocation seminarian and, God willing, I hope to be ordained in a few years.

And prayerfully these John Paul II Priests will change the world and become the future bishops that will save this Church in America. We are hurting more than most would care to admit.

In my lifetime, there are three people who have shaped and reformed the Faith more than any three other individuals in modern time. And as vastly different as these three people were, I believe God used them and their sufferings in a most extraordinary way… and they prevented the great Western schism which could have (but didn’t) happen. These three individuals are Pope Wojtyla, Mother Theresa of Calcutta, and Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation (of EWTN fame). They are so different and yet so connected. 200 years from now, when Catholic scholars are writing about soldiers who fought the culture of death… these three names will stand out.
