Archbishop Dolan--- It is easy to understand and empathize with your frustration. But silence in the face of insensitivity to Catholics' deeply-held beliefs leads to more of the same. Why not publish your thoughts on these matters in a wider forum? At any rate, Winston Churchill (I think) said it best: Never give up! Never give up! Never give up!

Archbishop, when the NY Times reviewed a play you deemed offensive to Catholics, you said the Times "would never think of doing" such to the Jewish community. Well, you have been proven wrong for today the Times reviewed the new production fo Merchant of Venice, considered anti-Jewish by some.

And Saturday, the other major daily in the Archdiocese, the NY Post, ran a racy, inappropriate photo of two mostly undressed persons in suggestive positions. And still you maintain your silence about the trash and filth in the largest circulation newspaper in the Murdoch- FOX News media empire.

Given a choice bewteen a newspaper that prints a photo of an actor dressed as a nun or one that constantly prints photos of people hardly dressed at all, I know which I would first speak out about. But I am a person who does not quiver in fear of the Murdoch-FOX media empire.

Catholics have always been bashed by he world so we should not be too shocked by this affrontery.
Now something that the good Archbishop can and should do something about is "Catholics" who publicly in the public square promote abortion. They should be politely told they are not welcome to any place of honor at St. Patrics Cathedral or to recieve Holy Communion.
We have a most clear example of a Catholic following church teachings in Carl Paladino. He said in the governors debate, I abide by the teachings of the Catholic church I am against same gender marriage. He took a lot of heat for his position. andrew on the other hand proudly proclaimed he was for homosexual marriage.

I sent this to the NY Times. It's time for Catholics to defend our church, the Anti Catholic bigotry in our media/newspapers and art is wrong. We need to defend our Church. I sent this to the New York Times and also have sent and called NPR WNYC regarding their Anti Catholic bias.

Your continued bigotry against the Catholic Church is hurtful..The Catholic Church has done more good then harm.
Cardinal O''Connor often worked on hospital floors at St. Claire's devoted to HIV pt's before we even understood AID's. To put a picture of him next to a condom and call him a scumbag, it's wrong.
Catholic bigotry is alive and well in America..and you the New York Times are the number one promoter..I put you in the same league as the National Enquirer. You just want to sell papers and taking shots at the Catholic Church is easy in your eyes.
The Catholic Church has been around for 2,000 years, we are not going anywhere.
Catholic bigotry is wrong as is Anti-Semitic or any other form of discrimination. The Catholic Church continues to help all regardless of faith, race, sexual preference or immigration status. So shame on you! Get to know the Catholic Church I think you will join us!
God Bless!

The problem is not in the NY Times but in ourselves. The Holy Father commented in April of 2010: “The attacks on the Pope and the Church come not only from without…The greatest persecution of the Church comes not from Her enemies without, but arises from sin within the Church, and the Church thus has a deep need to re-learn penance, to accept purification.”

You are are not a shrinking violet as are so many Catholics these days and I applaud you for standing up for the Church in a time of nasty attacks. New York is lucky to have you as their archbishop and you have many cheerleaders all over this country. I took my granddaughter to NYC for her 16th birthday a month ago and one of the highlights was sitting in the 9th row at St. Patricks and observing your wonderful way with the people there. Keep up the good work. A Fan from New Mexico...

Archbishop Dolan,

Your repeated statements about New York Times art reviews yet your absolute refusal to say a word against the trash and filth contrary to Catholic values in the New York Post (i.e. their photos of the 'Venus Erotica Show') is undercutting your stance.

Why do you stilll refuse to say even one word against the soft-core pornography in the New York Post? Are Murdoch owned companies exempt from criticism no matter how much their material violates Catholic values?

Are you really more concerned about photo of an actor dressed as a nun than of half-naked women in suggestive poses put into millions of New York households?

Interesting to wonder if those who feel it's alright to criticize the Archbishop Dolan for his sensitivity to crude Catholic jokes, feel similarly about PBS's firing of Juan William's in light of his recent statements.

'Stand for something or fall for anything!'

Archbishop Dolan, you speak for many Catholics that are tired of being ridiculed for our belief's and we support you through prayer.
