It's very interesting. As Catholics we adore the Virgin Mary. After the sign of the cross, the first prayer I learned was the Hail Mary. Catholics believe that Mary was the only human conceived without original sin. She carried the Son of God in her womb. A Woman provided humanity with a "fresh start". And yet a woman can not be a pope? A woman can not be an arch bishop? A woman can not even be a priest? Why does the Catholic Church cling to such a distorted view of gender and sexuality? Gender is strictly an accident of conception. Maybe there are different roles, but why should one gender be imbued with special privileges of authority? Isn't it time to allow women to be priests? To allow married people to be priests? Isn't it time to allow marriage equality? It's one thing to say that sex outside of marriage is a sin. It is quite another to say that some people can never have sex for the rest of their lives! That attitude reminds me of a response from the physicist Neil Bohr (or maybe Enrico Fermi) to Einstein's remark that God doesn't play dice: "Stop telling God what to do."

Thanks for another great post. And thanks for blessing our Christmas Luncheon yesterday, making it possible for Catholic Charities to help so many women and children in need. At the same event a few years ago, you spoke on how we are called to "let them into the inn" during their time of need -- following the example of "Little Ben": http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=534138170827

And the poor you will always have them. The poor are hungry and when the human is hungry in body mind or soul, it drives itself through yearning, passion and innovation. Without the poor the world would not exist. The rich need the poor and the poor need the rich. But the rich need the poor more.
Be patient, God lives in the present. The good and holy Bishops have much to do. 60 years of laziness and cowardice has lead to waywardness and two generations of Catholics un catechized. Pray and sacrifice for our Bishops, they are at war, truly it is war.
In Christo Semper,
Sr MA, Filia Christi Regis
