In accord with the Teaching of the Church, a Catholic Clerk must not take part in homosexual Marriage, they must always act with good conscious, if another Clerk feels comfortable w/ gay marriage they can take part.

Didn't Governor Cuomo make a point of highlighting the portrait of Thomas More in his office? The clerks who are losing their jobs re: same sex marriages ought to be given such a portrait. What did More say - "The king's good servant but God's first"?

The goverrnor hasn’t been disciplined by any bishop in NY, or better, church law has not been enforced in even the most minimal way by those who are the executives of the law in our church. Is anyone surprised that we have gay marriage now?

AMEN MR. HARCOURT

Irene:

With regard to the errouneous secular nomeclature categorizing Catholics of varying varieties: traditionaisit, liberal, conservative, we are not cult members. Nor are we politicians, though it is difficult at times to differentiate a Bishop from a politician, we belong to one Church. We profess the one faith. We are not traditional, liberal, conservative Catholics. We are Roman Catholics. We sumbit ourselves to the Bishop of Rome. We proclaim ONE Gospel. We are either faithful or unfaithful to the Gospel Jesus Christ gave us. "If any man preach a Gospel to you other than the one that you have received. let him be anathema". When our Shepards do not faithfully proclaim this Gospel, the wolves are free to devour the sheep. They are free to set up false factions and division.

Irene: Good luck. In my experience the conservative, traditionalist Catholics would rather you just go away. They aren't likely going to encourage dialogue and robust debate about Church matters.

Who is the target audience for this blog? Is it the Catholics of the Archdiocese of NY or is it intended for a broader audience of traditionalist Catholics? I ask because of the constant references to Bill Donahue and other conservative advocates. The people commenting also seem to be disproportionately traditionalist (often from outside the Archdiocese) and not really reflective of NY Catholics over all.

Archbishop Dolan appears to be very conservative. I think he is completely within his rights to keep a blog that reflects his particular views, but I really wish the archdiocese could also have a second blog aimed to the broader audience of NY Catholics. I would like to see something that is more pastoral and less about politics and culture wars.

I have heard nothing as to whether Archbishop Dolan has had a chat with Bishop Hubbard about what to do the next time Gov. Cuomo and lady friend themselves for Holy Communion at a Mass televised by the networks--or at any mass, for that matter.

We worry so much about priests who stray because of sins of the flesh. I find their sins far more understandable, sadly, than the actions of Governor Cuomo stepping forward for communion with a woman he lives with but is not married to.

Has anybody talked with Bishop Hubbard. Maybe Archbishop Dolan could send Bill Donohue to have a chat with him.

WD misstates the President's responsibilities with respect to DOMA. It is a shame that the head of the Catholic League does not understand the law and it is a greater shame that the highest RC authority in NY repeats his error publicly on this site. RCs lose credibility in the public square because of this.

"Wish the governor could view the Catholic Church’s teaching on faith and morals as he views the state’s law."
That last post was excellent. Actually, though, isn't it more correct to say that we wish the bishops had the same attitude toward church and divine law that the governor has toward the infallibility of state law? He was right in saying that there's a lot more at stake than jail time and fines here. The goverrnor hasn't been disciplined by any bishop in NY, or better, church law has not been enforced in even the most minimal way by those who are the executives of the law in our church. Is anyone surprised that we have gay marriage now?

Cuomo should be excommunicated. The two legislators {Republican Senators} who are K.of C.members should be tossed out of the K.of C. and Grand Knight Anderson's salary of 1.2 million reduced as well as the other out of sight salaries of the Directors==it's a pyramid scheme using the the Catholic faith.

"The law is the law," Governor? Yes, but then there is The Law. "It is fearful to fall into the hands of the living God."
