To Whom Shall We Go?

Let me share my latest Catholic New York column with you on a wonderful initiative called Family Day—A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children.

Are you ready for his prescription for the many maladies that afflict society?

Families have to eat together!

Yes, you heard me: if a family has a meal together regularly, as often as possible, at least two or three times a week, the members of that family have happier, healthier (and, by the way, holier) lives.

  1. Mary says:

Families might want to try to pray together as well. For spiritual health, start with grace before meals.

  2. We grew up in our family with all of us eating together our supper in the evening. It was a time for us to share what happened in school as well as the fun we had on our block after school. I story that I like to tell folks is how I would walk home from school at lunch time and I couldn’t wait to see if my Mom had a white towel out on the rail of Mrs. Johnson’s apartment. It meant that we would have lunch at their apartment. Mrs. Johnson was expecting her 7th child and my Mom would go up to help her with her housework. I had such a good time playing with their children

The last few years have destroyed me as a catholic, and having lost trust in the basic humanity of many of the clergy I am left without those who often gave me the impetus to pray and to go after Jesus. I now make a point of praying a simple Hail Mary before my main meal. When I arrive at the words “fruit of thy womb,Jesus”I still feel the presence of the Lord.Archbishop Dolan seems to be a good man and one of honesty,I wish that he and all of his generation would do away with all of the Romanita which is I am sure a sin in the eyes of God. To whom shall we go?And does anybody believe that the Truth will set us free?

I must read your blog more often as my soul feels a little fresher.

    God bless
