I disagree. I don't think it's a matter of how much hope we have, but what kind of hope we have. We need a supernatural hope, because the disintegration of our culture is, at bottom, a disintegration of our understanding of the human person. And we cannot understand the human person apart from God. As JPII said, the "theological perspective" is necessary to address the problems of our time.
