Two white “doves of peace” released on Sunday from Pope Francis’ window overlooking St. Peter’s Square were attacked by a crow and a seagull.
Pope Francis asked children standing with him to release the doves as a gesture of peace after he urged Ukraine authorities and its people to renounce violence in the upheaval across their country.
Thousands, including a crowd of more than 3,000 youth, watched from below.
The doves are reported to have escaped the attack. Perhaps this means, according to AOL reporters, that “peace will be attacked but will prevail.”
