"... All we can do is continue to speak the truth....

Agreed. And will CatholicNY be the one speaking? To correct misleading beliefs of self-identified catholic speakers regarding abortion?

The Church has proclaimed the truth about defending human life clearly, consistently, and since time immemorial. But people of every age, in their pride, hardened hearts and darkened intellect, still reject the truth. It is a terrible mystery, but it is the cost of having free will -- some people will use it badly, and make decisions that put them on the path to destruction (Matthew 7:13)

This is a problem that Our Lord himself encountered. He proclaimed the truth, and some found it too hard and walked away (John 6:66). He even appeared to them, risen from the dead, and some doubted (Matthew 28:17). This is why he told the parable of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31).

All we can do is continue to speak the truth in a compelling, attractive way, and pray that people will be open to the grace that God offers them -- and that He will have mercy on those who are not.

You are too kind to call Caroline Kennedy's faux catholicism "nonsense" which it is. The fact is, she deliberately chose to proclaim herself "Catholic" on national TV before millions; she could have left that phrase out and delivered her bloody message to cheers. But she didn't. "As a Catholic woman" was meant to lash the Church -- to scourge the Body of Christ. Of course, I don't claim she thinks of it that way. She is a just an easy tool of the living darkness we saw on deviant display at the Democrat convention.

But our Church should, must, has to, respond in public, to those seduced by the woman's reproductive health lies. Short of Cardinal Dolan dropping her in a tub of holy water in front of St. Patrick's, maybe we could hope to see an article in CatholicNY that will address the utterly false Catholicism that was pervasive during the Democrat convention. This false Catholicism is a condition sickens and kills souls; it imperils eternal life. It is killing our culture, our country and our faith. Will someone, anyone, in the Catholic world, please speak up?

Thank you for your commentary on the meaning of being pro-llife and how the term is being misused.
A new phase is rearing its head in the culture clash in which we are living. Please continue writing and saying what so many know and feel but are not heard in the curent "marketplace."

You can see similar nonsense from the likes of Caroline Kennedy, who prefaces her support for the legal killing of unborn children with the non sequitur, "as a Catholic woman". Sad that people can be so committed to a false ideology that they can turn so far away from the truth.

I find it interesting but not surprising that Sister used the very same response as did Barak Obama in one of the debates prior to his election when he was asked about his position on abortion and resopnded, "Tha't above my pay grade," a very clear cop out on his part but a position he made very clear after his election. HOw sad that such people as Sr. Simone can glory in getting publicity by taking a postion on a very fundamental teaching of the Church of which she claims to be a representative part ala Biden, Pelosi, Sibelius and on and on.

Simone Campbell's speech had nothing to do with "pro-life" anything.

Hers was a prime time example of the "Catholic" brand turned unrecognizable by a rogue sister who has replaced her Baltimore Catechism with Democrat fem theology. Her sick "pay-grade" response echos what the Chicago messiah said in 2008, when he was asked when he thought life began.

There is nothing genuinely Catholic in any of this. A party atmosphere celebrating abortion is as sick as it gets. The vote on whether to put God back with all the boos, hoots and hollers, could have been cast in Dante's inferno.

I hope the Cardinal says St. Michael's prayer tonight when this soul-melting convention is over. I hope he says it like he means it. Believe me, he will have many of us praying it with him.
